What your points are actually worth
Bank marketing math says 1 point = 1 cent. Reality is closer to 1.5–2.0¢ if you redeem well — and as low as 0.5¢ if you don't. Our editors set the value below based on the median real redemption they see.
Updated monthly · Not a target — it's the floor you should clear.

How to read this
- · The cents-per-point number is the floor — if you redeem at less, you're losing value.
- · Transferable currencies (Amex MR, Chase UR, Cap One, Citi, Bilt) are worth more because you can move them to airline + hotel partners on demand.
- · Hotel programs like Hilton & Marriott have inflated balances. Don't hoard them.
- · To beat our valuation, find a sweet-spot redemption — those routinely run 5–10¢ per point.
